EMI Conductive Film

Kitagawa’s WINAL EMI film is an extremely transparent, thin and lightweight material that is easy to cut and electrically conductive. It is great for EMC and electro static discharge of LCD screens, apertures and other displays. The low surface electric resistance provides higher shielding effectiveness.

When electromagnetic waves such as radio frequency encounter the shielding layer, the conductive material reflects, absorbs or disperses the energy. Part of the EMI is absorbed and converted into heat, whilst the remaining EMI is guided to ground through the conductive layer. This prevents the EMI from disrupting display circuits or nearby components.

There are numerous applications for the WINAL conductive film and below are some examples:

Medical Equipment
The conductive film allows medical devices to be EMI proof. The monitoring screens of medical equipment need to be shielded so that EMI is not radiated within the room. This ensures that monitoring patient health remains reliable.

Displays
EMI film provides a complete magnetic seal against EM waves and RF while ensuring permeability in the visible spectrum. This is why shielding film is used for shielding digital displays.

Smartphones
EMI conductive films prevent high frequency signals (such as Wi-Fi, 5G) from interfering with components like camera and display drivers. They also prevent internal components from emitting signals that disrupt other parts of the phone.

Wire Mesh Gaskets

Kitagawa all metal EMI shielding gaskets are regularly used on cast, machined and sheet metal enclosures. The mesh gaskets are particularly suitable for  groove mounting where they are held in place by sidewall friction.

The EMI gaskets can also be fixed in place by gluing, riveting, spot welding or soldering. With an all metal construction they can operate at very high temperatures.

The knitted structure of the wire mesh gasket conforms to irregular surfaces, thus providing a reliable shielding effect. Non-braiding and non-wire loosening are also available which allows the customer to cut to their required length.

Custom profiles and lengths are available upon request. Round and rectangle profile are available, as well as P-shape, that is used to help attach the gasket to fins. Further information on our standard profiles is listed on our datasheet.

Spring Finger Contacts

Kitagawa onboard spring contacts are a versatile, single-contact surface mountable metal connector used on PCBs for grounding, shielding and connecting electronic components. They prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) and static caused by other components such as motors or speakers.

The spring contacts are supplied in reel format, making them an ideal solution for automated assembly. Their compact size ensures efficient use of limited PCB space and are a low-cost solution that are easy to incorporate into both new and existing designs.

Spring finger contacts have a box-like structure that prevents damage and deformation to the springs. The box structure allows the SMD contact to withstand hundreds of thousands of compression cycles. There is a wide variety of sizes and heights are available to fit almost any gap.

As well as Kitagawa’s OG Series, there are a number of other profiles suited to other configurations such as the OG-R Series. This is an ultra-narrow profile that is more suited to ultra-thin spaces compared to the OG Series. In addition to this it provides enhanced grounding and fixing near screws.

For grounding side contacts, customers may consider the OGSC Series. An ideal spring contact solution for applications where standard grounding between parallel boards or chassis is not possible. The light weight design of the OGSC profile helps reduce load on the PCB.

The OGP profile is a special designed on-board contacts with enhanced strength from a fibreglass reinforcement. This is suited for PCBs subject to extreme levels of vibration. Not only do they protect PCBs from vibration damage, the prevent screws from coming lose due to vibration.

SMD Ferrite Beads

Ferrite beads are a surface mounted device (SMD) fitted at PCB level, typically near the point of entry for cables or power supplies. They are used to filter out higher frequency noise on a power line and increase the impedance over a certain band of frequencies.

The SMD beads are a high permeable material which means they effectively collect magnetic fields. As they collect magnetic fields they limit the ability of the fields to change rapidly, thus acting as a filter of high energy.

Ferrite beads exhibit an inductive region or band where the impedance linearly increases vs frequency. They exhibit an inductive region or band which is located in the mid-band range of the bead, which is also where the impedance is the highest. Thus SMD ferrites can act as a great loss mechanism at their mid-band frequency. Then at high end band frequencies they start to act capacitive as they come out of the restive band as the frequency increases.

The multilayer chip beads are a low-cost option compared to traditional inductors or ferrite cores, and their compact size makes then an ideal solution for small electronic devices. In addition to this they provide excellent solderability and high heat resistance for either wave soldering or reflow. The monolithic structure provides high reliability and stable performance.

We offer a variety of ferrite bead profiles:

0201 (0603 metric) profile – Micro sized ferrite beads designed for space saving and small devices.

High Current Profile – For high current DC power lines and circuits where stable grounding is unavailable. We offer current rating of 1A to 6A.

High Frequency Profile: Offers impedance performance three times higher than that of our traditional MFB ferrite beads at 1GHz and above.

4 Line Chip Bead: Combines four single 160808 (0603) ferrite chips to reduce board space and assembly time.

Kitagawa Split Ferrite Cores

Kitagawa split cable ferrites prohibit cables from acting as antennas, thereby preventing radiated EMI noise. The ferrite core itself is a metallic compound which has a magnetic field. Using the ferrite suppresses the electromagnetic emissions by blocking frequency noise and thus preventing electromagnetic interference.

The split ferrites are enclosed inside a plastic housing which not only protects the ferrite core from damage, but also employs a snap-lock mechanism which provides a secure seal and allows for easy assembly and disengagement.

An advantage with using a split ferrite core is that they are easy to fit to existing builds. This provides it with a significant advantage over traditional toroidal/round ferrite cores that require encapsulating or coating to function properly, which increases likelihood of a production delay. This feature is also useful during design or prototype stage if any design change is needed.

As well as these advantages, the plastic casing used for the split ferrite series has a harness guide that enables easy harness wiring and prevents cable pinching. In addition to this some products offer a cable tie feature or offer additional mounting options.

Suited for low to high frequency ranges between 30Khz up t 1Ghz, the Kitagawa split cable ferrites are all ROHS and REACH compliant, UL 94 certified, and are manufactured to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards.
